Morphylapxis. 2020

 

I was invited to contribute two images from my new series “Morphylapxis” for the Summer 2020 issue of TDR: The Drama Review. The images are part of a new project on tactics of metamorphosis and concealment.

​

As a brown, Latinx, immigrant, queer artist, metamorphosis, transformation, and multiplicity are ways of becoming, and disguising. Using masks, wigs, costumes as a survival strategy, I have lived for years disguised both on the stage and in my everyday life. In this work, I apply the tactic of metamorphosis and concealment by superposing images of costumes and masks from past performances to create new visual possibilities.
