The work started with our need as artists and choreographers to add our voice to the political situation and environment of that moment. We decided that the privilege of having a commissioned invitation to perform on a formal stage, and already having a choreographic frame from our project From A to Z, provided the perfect situation to create C (as in continuum).

 

We started with the task of observing our daily life, as partners and choreographers living together, over a long period of time. A major aspect of what we observed was how news reports formed a constant presence in the background of our domestic environment – one that we could not escape. The final form of the work combines a beginning using rhythmical patterns in unison and a projected video in the form of a video game. A digital clock runs above the video for the duration of the piece (exactly 20 minutes) as if counting down the seconds before an impending disaster. As we introduce a dining table, lamps, chairs, plants transforming the stage into a domestic space, the video shifts to images of the news, clouds and sky which gradually become darker and more threatening. The work ended with the banging of pots while repeating the formal dance from the beginning.
